World History Lesson Plans for a New Generation

History and social studies are not always the most exciting subjects for kids, which means that teaching them can be intimidating. As a teacher, it's my job to present the subject to my class in a way that's stimulating and fun, and this can be a really big challenge. This year, I had to come up with world history lesson plans, civil war lesson plans, and general social studies lesson plans for two different classes. I decided to go online and see if I could find a new way of planning these lessons, a way that the kids would truly enjoy, and I found a great website that offered fun and unusual plans for my particular subject. The lesson plans use interactive games, PowerPoint presentations, crossword puzzles, video reenactments of famous speeches, and many more exciting techniques. These days kids are used to constant mental stimulation, and putting them in front of a textbook or a dry erase board simply isn't cutting it. That's why these lesson plans are perfect. The plans offer a variety of ways to engage the kids in history lessons, and they can have fun while they're learning. For example, I use the video reenactments of the presidential speeches to create a friendly competition in the classroom. I divide the kids into teams, and after each presidential speech, the class is asked a series of questions pertaining to the speech. The team with the most correct answers wins free snacks. Also, once a week I assign each team a crossword puzzle to complete. The team that completes it the quickest (and most accurately) is given the day off from homework. Naturally, this creates some pretty intense competition, which means the kids are really giving it their all, and this ensures that they are really and truly learning.
